Armed Forces Covenant

Camborne Town Council resolved in July 2026 to pledge to support the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that the Council will acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, including bereaved, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Although the formal signing ceremony is yet to take place, the Council has agreed to adopt the principles of the pledge.

Camborne Town Council recognises the contribution that Service personnel, reservists, veterans, the cadet movement and military families make to Camborne Town Council, our community and to the country. The Council will seek to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant by:

• Promoting the Armed Forces:

The Mayor will recruit a Mayor’s Cadet who will be present at civic events. The Cadet will be a visual promotion of the Council’s commitment to the pledge.

The Council will fly appropriate flags and emblems from its buildings to mark local and national armed forces occasions.

The Council will work actively in collaboration with armed forces organisations, including charitable bodies who represent veterans, the bereaved or families of defence personnel.

• Employment support to members of the Armed Forces Community:

The Council intends to be an active member of the Defence Employer Scheme. It wishes to achieve Bronze Defence Employer recognition during 2026, with view to aim for Silver and Gold in future years.

Camborne Town Council employee policies will be supportive of defence employees, accounting for the needs of reservists, veterans and military families.

Camborne Town Council will actively promote vacancies to bodies who support the recruitment of ex-defence personnel or their families.

• Communications, engagement and outreach:

We intend to host a dedicated space on our website to promote the covenant and armed forces, as well as supporting local and national armed forces events, anniversaries and remembrance across our digital channels.

We will work in collaboration with the Royal British Legion on Remembrance and anniversary events in Camborne.

We will work in collaboration with local cadets’ forces to deliver engagement and outreach activities.

We will invite local armed forces organisations to attend and support community events to encourage awareness and engagement.

• Commercial:

Where possible, The Council will consider offering room bookings, pitch or equipment hire to armed forces organisations at charitable rates or free.

• Health, Housing, Education:

In the Council’s representation, activism and lobbying, Camborne Town Council will recognise, represent and advocate for the the needs of defence personnel who reside or work within the Parish.

• Civic responsibilities:

Camborne Town Councillors and the Mayor of Camborne will attend local and national armed forces events, anniversaries, and ceremonies for remembrance at appropriate times throughout the year.

Camborne Town Council will publicise these commitments through it’s literature and/or on it’s website, setting out how it will seek to honour them and inviting feedback from the Armed Forces Community and our residents on how it is doing.
