Camborne Library Closure Following Safety Concerns & Event Cancellation
Camborne Town Council regrets to announce the temporary closure of Camborne Library and the cancellation of the scheduled Story Time and Craft Session with performers Roxie and Ginger, which was due to take place on Saturday 27 June.
This decision has been taken following a number of concerning public comments made on social media. These comments have been deemed threatening, intimidating, malicious, and inciting hate, particularly towards members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Due to the risks posed to the public, staff and performers—who no longer feel safe attending the event—the Council has taken the precautionary step to cancel the session in the interest of public safety.
Camborne Town Council Mayor, Councillor Chapman said:
“The cancellation of the event is incredibly disappointing. We had two fantastic performers who have achieved great things and who are outstanding members of our community. They deserve to be celebrated, not threatened to the point they feel fearful for their safety and the safety of those who are coming to see them. I am deeply saddened that some members of our community are unable to accept and live in a culturally diverse society.”
In light of the nature and severity of the comments, and to safeguard staff and the public, Camborne Town Council has also taken the decision to close Camborne Library on Saturday 27th June and reopen on Monday 29 June at 9:00am.
All participants booked on the ‘Monthly Makers-Lino Print Bunting’ session will be informed of the closure and cancellation by email and issued a refund of their ticket price.
The Council remains committed to fostering inclusivity, respect, and safety for all members of the community and will continue to review measures to ensure public spaces and buildings remain welcoming and safe.
